Radiological Monitoring

Area, personnel, and effluent monitoring track dose and any release so exposures stay far below limits at all times.

Radiological monitoring confirms that the shielding, containment, and procedures are working — continuously and by measurement, not assumption. It covers area radiation levels, personnel dose, contamination, and effluent, so any deviation is caught and acted on before it approaches a limit.

Monitoring domains

As low as reasonably achievable

Monitoring supports the ALARA principle by revealing where dose is accumulating so work can be re-planned to reduce it. During operation the reactor hall is unoccupied; during outages, access is controlled and dose is tracked in real time. The low 5.44% neutron fraction keeps activation and dose modest but does not remove the need for monitoring.

Records and reporting

Dose and effluent data are recorded, trended, and reported against limits. The monitoring system is engineered at design stage against the frozen machine's source term and integrated with the safety systems; it is verified during commissioning.
