Outage Planning
Outages are pre-planned, scoped, and sequenced so all vacuum-breaking work happens together and the return to service is fast.
An outage is a planned shutdown for inspection and maintenance. Good outage planning maximizes the work done per outage and minimizes the days the machine is down. Because breaking vacuum and warming coils are expensive, all tasks needing those conditions are gathered into a single, well-sequenced outage.
Before the outage
- Scope is fixed from condition data and life budgets
- Spares and tooling are staged in advance
- Work is sequenced to run tasks in parallel where safe
- Dose planning is completed for controlled-area work
During and after
During the outage, work proceeds against the plan with change control for anything discovered. After work is complete, the machine is pumped down, baked, and conditioned, and subsystems are re-commissioned in the startup gate sequence before the burn is restored. This recovery time is planned and shortened deliberately.
Continuous improvement
Each outage is reviewed to shorten the next: what took longest, what could be pre-staged, what could move online. Outage planning is engineered at design stage and matures with operating experience from the first test burner onward.
