Maintenance Philosophy

Maintenance is designed in: modular components, planned access, and condition monitoring keep outages short and doses low.

Maintainability is a design property, not an afterthought. Aegis is built so that components with finite life can be inspected and replaced with planned access, minimizing outage duration and radiation dose. The philosophy blends scheduled maintenance, condition-based intervention, and remote handling where dose requires it.

Design for maintenance

Three intervention types

Scheduled maintenance follows the calendar or run-hours. Condition-based maintenance acts on measured degradation before failure. Corrective maintenance responds to faults. Aegis leans toward the first two, because predicting and planning work protects availability far better than reacting.

Dose and safety

Because the reactor hall is a controlled radiological area — even with the low 5.44% neutron fraction — maintenance is planned to keep worker dose as low as reasonably achievable, using remote handling and the hot cell for the most activated components. The maintenance program is engineered at design stage against the frozen machine.
