Plant Water & Waste Management

Water inventory, effluent, and solid waste are managed with monitoring appropriate to the low-activation D-³He design.

Water and waste management covers plant water inventory, liquid effluent, gaseous release paths, and solid waste. The low neutron fraction (5.44%) of the D-³He burn keeps activation and waste volumes modest compared with a D-T machine, but the streams are still monitored and handled under environmental controls.

Water streams

Waste streams

Solid waste is dominated by activated components retired over the plant's life — chiefly shielding and structure near the plasma. Because activation is low, most components fall into low-activity categories and decay over manageable timescales. Waste is characterized, packaged, and stored under the applicable framework.

Monitoring and release

Effluent and gaseous release paths are monitored against limits, and any tritium-bearing stream is routed to controlled handling before release. The management plan is engineered at design stage; the environmental performance targets follow from the frozen machine's low-activation design.
