What a Design Study Is
Kronos's machines are design and simulation studies — rigorous, reproducible, and not yet built. Saying so is not a disclaimer; it is the accurate description.
The accurate description of our work
A design study works out, in detail and by calculation, how a machine could be built and how it should perform, before any steel is cut. It is real, rigorous engineering. It is also not a built machine. Kronos's breeder (Hyperion) and burner (Aegis / MetroVolt) are design and simulation studies today; construction of the first begins in 2027.
What a design study delivers
- A specified design point with its assumptions — Q_sci 3.424, fields, current, yields
- Reproducible analyses that others can check
- Identified open gates that construction will resolve
- Falsifiable predictions to score against future hardware
What it does not deliver
It does not deliver measurements, net gain, or operating experience — those require the machine. Describing our program as a design study is not hedging; it is the correct noun for what it is. A reader who knows they are reading a design study will weigh it correctly, which is all we ask.
Great design studies are how every real machine begins. Ours are meant to be the honest, checkable front end of a program that ends in built hardware — not a substitute for it.
