The Burner, Honestly

The burner (Aegis / MetroVolt) is a well-motivated D-3He design gated on a real physics question — Kronos states both the promise and the gate.

Promise and gate, together

The burner (Aegis / MetroVolt) is a D-3He tandem-mirror generator designed for net-electric output via direct energy conversion, with a low 5.44% neutron fraction and high-field plugs at 26.49 T (17 T at the throat). That is the promise. The gate is that, at feasible beta, forming the magnetic well the machine needs is not yet established — the plug-density caveat.

What we can honestly say today

What we will not say

We will not present the burner as a working generator, imply it is aneutronic, or quote its performance without the caveat that everything rests on the plug-density condition. Our own closure work is explicit that this is the load-bearing open question, and honesty means leading with it, not burying it.

The burner is a serious design with a serious open gate. Both halves of that sentence are true, and we say both.
