The Confidence Statement
Kronos attaches an explicit, sometimes modest, confidence to its forward claims — because stating low confidence honestly beats implying high confidence silently.
Saying how sure we are
A confidence statement is an explicit estimate of how likely a forward-looking claim is to hold. Kronos attaches confidence to its milestones rather than presenting every projection as equally certain. On the harder physics — reaching design performance at scale — our stated confidence is deliberately modest, reflecting that hardware has not yet spoken.
Why modest confidence is the honest number
It would be easy to project confidence we do not have. The breeder's near-term products rest on fusion gain we can model well; the burner's net-electric ambition rests on a plug-density condition we cannot yet demonstrate. Reporting the same high confidence for both would be false. Different claims get different, stated confidence.
Confidence is not pessimism
- High enough to commit to building — construction begins 2027
- Modest enough to keep the open gates genuinely open
- Rises as each gate closes with real data
- Never rounded up to make a slide land better
A program that always sounds certain is not being confident; it is refusing to price its own risk. Stating confidence — and revising it as evidence arrives — is how an honest program keeps its word calibrated to its knowledge.
