Falsifiability
A Kronos claim is only meaningful if there is a measurement that could show it to be false. We state that measurement alongside the claim.
The test that makes a claim real
A claim that no possible observation could contradict is not a scientific claim; it is a slogan. Falsifiability is the property that a statement rules something out. Kronos ties its quantitative claims to the observations that would refute them, so a reader can see the claim is doing real work.
Falsifiers we accept
- If the FOAK breeder plasma does not reach its design current, the confinement model is wrong
- If a built blanket breeds below 1.0, the tritium self-sufficiency case fails
- If the burner cannot form a magnetic well at feasible beta, the plug-density caveat has bitten
- If measured neutron fraction departs from 5.44%, the D-3He balance model needs revision
Why we volunteer the falsifiers
Naming what would prove us wrong is a stronger signal than any positive claim. It shows the claim is exposed to reality rather than insulated from it. It also protects the reader: they do not have to reverse-engineer our assumptions to know what is at stake.
An honest program keeps a list of ways it could be wrong and watches for them. A program with no such list is not being careful — it is being unfalsifiable, which is worse than being wrong.
