Open Data as a Check

Kronos publishes the data behind its results so that anyone — supporter or skeptic — can check the work rather than take our word for it.

Data that anyone can inspect

Open data means the inputs, intermediate values, and outputs of an analysis are published, not just the conclusion. Kronos deposits its datasets to permanent archives alongside the papers that use them. The purpose is verification: a reader does not have to trust a plotted line when they can download the numbers behind it.

What open data enables

The honesty in the exposure

Publishing data is a standing invitation to be corrected. It removes the ability to quietly adjust numbers after the fact, because the deposited version is fixed and dated. A program that publishes its data is telling you it expects the data to hold up — and accepts the consequences if they do not.

There are limits: we keep economics out of the public record entirely, and some engineering detail is held back for legitimate reasons. But the physics results that support our claims travel with the data needed to check them.
