From Scarcity to Stewardship

The move from fighting over scarce fuel to stewarding an abundant one changes the human relationship with energy.

A different relationship with energy

For most of history, energy has meant scarcity — deposits to find, control, and defend. Abundant, widely available fuel would shift the frame from scarcity toward stewardship: the question becomes not who controls the fuel but how well we manage the systems that use it. That is a healthier relationship, though not an automatic one.

Fusion fuels point in this direction. Deuterium is in seawater, tritium can be bred, and the reaction burns nothing. The scarce exception is the burner's helium-3, which is exactly why breeding and, distantly, lunar sources are discussed honestly rather than assumed. Even the abundance story has a scarce chapter we do not hide.
