Designing for the Commons
Treating fusion knowledge as a shared commons — published, licensed openly, reproducible — is how the work serves more than one company.
Knowledge as shared infrastructure
A technology meant to serve humanity should not lock its foundational knowledge behind closed doors. Kronos treats its physics results, data, and methods as a commons: published openly, deposited with permanent identifiers (Zenodo DOIs), and released under open licenses so others can inspect, reuse, and challenge them. This is a design choice about who the work is for.
The reasoning is practical as well as ethical. Fusion is too large a problem for any one team. Open results let independent groups check our claims, reuse our methods, and advance the field faster than any single company could alone. The commons is how the mission outruns the company.
What we place in the commons
- Published papers describing the frozen designs and their limits
- Open data and code that reproduce the key results
- Pre-registered predictions that anyone can later judge
- Clearly documented honest gates and open questions
We keep economics out of the commons account deliberately; the shared thing is knowledge, not a sales case.
