Why Fixed Installations, Not Naval

The burner in its Aegis housing is scoped to fixed defense installations; naval propulsion is explicitly out of scope for the design as studied.

Scope: bases and fixed sites

The burner (Aegis / MetroVolt) is studied only for fixed installations — main operating bases, fixed forward sites, and (in the MetroVolt housing) data centers. The Aegis housing is a fixed defense installation generator. It is not a naval power plant, and shipboard or submarine propulsion is not part of the design as studied.

Why the boundary is drawn there

A tandem-mirror generator is a large, magnetically complex machine with a 26.49 T plug and 17 T throat fields. Its mass, shielding, and cryogenic infrastructure suit a prepared, fixed foundation far better than a moving hull. Fixing the site also lets the design assume a hardened, surveyed emplacement with room for redundancy and shielding — assumptions that a ship cannot make.

Fixing the installation does not remove the honest gates. Plug coil stress (~3–3.9× over the design bore), the plug regime being 166–830× beyond demonstrated devices, helium-3 supply at ~400× below demand per unit, and availability of 0.86–0.995 all apply to a fixed machine exactly as stated. Fixing the site simplifies siting and shielding; it does not change plasma physics.

Any external reference to Aegis should follow this boundary: fixed defense installations, resilient sovereign power, no naval claim. The engineering case, the shielding budget, and the redundancy architecture are all written for a fixed emplacement.

A boundary that clarifies the engineering

Drawing the scope at fixed installations lets every downstream assumption be concrete: a surveyed foundation rated for the machine's mass, a shielding budget for the 5.44% neutron fraction, defined standoff distances, and space for separated redundant units. A moving platform would force all of these to be renegotiated with each deployment. The fixed-installation scope is therefore not a limitation on the ambition but a precondition for the survivability and redundancy the mission requires.
