Resilient Sovereign Power: Overview

Kronos studies how a compact fusion generator could supply resilient, self-sufficient power to fixed defense installations, and states plainly the gates that stand between design and hardware.

What resilient sovereign power means here

For a defense installation, resilient sovereign power is the ability to generate the electricity a mission needs on-site, without depending on a commercial grid, a fuel convoy, or a foreign supply chain, and to keep generating through disruption. Kronos studies whether the burner (Aegis / MetroVolt) — a D–3He tandem-mirror generator using direct energy conversion — could serve that role at fixed installations (bases and fixed forward sites, not naval platforms).

This is a design-and-simulation study, not deployed hardware. The breeder (Hyperion) construction begins Q2 2027 with first-of-a-kind (FOAK) first tritium targeted around 2030; the burner is a later, harder machine. We claim no hardware net gain before FOAK, and none at all for the burner today.

The honest gates

Candor is part of the value. Four physics gates presently separate the burner from a fieldable sovereign power source, and every one is a design finding, not a marketing caveat:

These gates are why the breeder (which breeds tritium and helium-3) and lunar helium-3 matter, and why any near-term architecture treats fusion as one hardened element in a redundant power system — never a sole source. The pages in this section develop each theme with full physics candor.

How to read this section

Each page pairs a specific capability — islanding, black-start, survivability, low signature — with the honest engineering reality behind it. Where a page touches the burner, it repeats the relevant gate so no capability is read in isolation from its precondition. The consistent message is that resilient sovereign power is a system outcome: a hardened, redundant, sovereignly fuelled architecture in which a mature burner would be the anchor, achievable today only in design and simulation.
