Gate: Helium-3 Demand ~400x Supply

A single commercial burner unit would demand roughly 400 times the domestic helium-3 supply, so the machine is gated on a fuel that does not exist at terrestrial scale.

The finding

The burner fuses deuterium with helium-3. Helium-3 is extraordinarily scarce on Earth. A single commercial burner unit would require on the order of 400 times the entire domestic helium-3 supply per year. The fuel simply does not exist at the scale one commercial machine needs, let alone a fleet.

Why this is the deepest gate

Plug stress and regime are engineering and physics problems on the machine. The fuel gate is upstream of the machine entirely: even a perfect burner cannot run without helium-3. Terrestrial helium-3 comes largely from tritium decay in limited stockpiles — nowhere near fleet demand.

The two pathways that make the burner conceivable

This gate is precisely why the breeder and lunar helium-3 are central to the defense story rather than side notes. Without a sovereign helium-3 pathway, the burner's resilient-power promise is unbacked. With one, the fuel argument becomes a supply-chain to build rather than a physical impossibility.

The gate upstream of the machine

Plug stress and regime are problems on the machine; the fuel gate is upstream of it entirely. Even a flawless burner cannot run without helium-3, and terrestrial supply is roughly 400 times short of a single commercial unit's annual demand. This is why the breeder's bred helium-3 and, at fleet scale, lunar helium-3 are load-bearing parts of the strategy rather than footnotes.
