Why Breeder-Bred and Lunar Helium-3 Matter
The burner's fuel gate is only answerable by a sovereign helium-3 pathway: breeder-bred isotopes now and lunar helium-3 later.
The fuel gate demands a source
Because a commercial burner needs ~400× domestic helium-3 supply, the machine is only credible if a new, sovereign helium-3 source exists. Two pathways are studied, and together they connect the breeder, the Moon, and the burner into one strategy.
Breeder-bred, in the near term
The breeder (Hyperion) is a D–T spherical tokamak that produces a ~4 kg/yr-class tritium stream and a ~1.97 kg/yr-class helium-3 stream, with tritium decaying to helium-3 over time. This is a domestic, sovereign isotope source under national control — the near-term answer to the fuel gate and the reason the breeder is built first.
Lunar, in the longer term
The lunar regolith holds helium-3 implanted over billions of years by the solar wind. It is the only known reservoir large enough for a burner fleet. It is also a hard extraction and transport problem, years out, and Kronos treats it as a longer-term source, not a near-term supply.

The fuel gate is not solved by either pathway alone today. Naming both is the honest account of how the burner could ever be fuelled sovereignly.

Neither closes the ~400× fuel gate today. Naming both, with their respective limits, is the truthful account of how the burner could ever be fuelled under national control.
