Operating and maintaining a high-field fusion unit — with its cryogenics, plasma control, and safety systems — requires trained operators and maintainers. Availability (0.86–0.995) and MTTR depend directly on operator and maintainer skill: fast, correct diagnosis and repair shorten downtime. Safety of a machine with high fields, cryogens, and a neutron fraction depends on disciplined procedures and a strong safety culture. Human factors are therefore a genuine lever on the honest reliability figures.

As a design-stage machine, the burner's training programme is a future task, but designing for maintainability and operability now — clear interfaces, modular access, good procedures — is part of building a machine that can actually deliver resilient power.
