The hardest logistics case
A fixed forward site sits at the end of the longest, most exposed supply line. Every litre of fuel and every spare travels a contested route. That is exactly where reducing the logistics tail has the greatest life-safety value — and exactly where a long-interval on-site generator would matter most.
Why fixed, not mobile
The burner is a large, high-field machine; it is studied for fixed forward sites with prepared foundations, shielding, and space for redundancy — not for rapidly relocatable or expeditionary use. A fixed forward site still benefits enormously from cutting resupply frequency.
Honest constraints
- Emplacing a fusion unit forward requires a prepared, defendable site.
- Availability of 0.86–0.995 means forward power still needs storage and backup.
- The helium-3 fuel chain must reach the site — a smaller but real logistics task.
The forward site is the clearest expression of the resilience thesis and the clearest reminder of its preconditions: the burner is not fieldable today, and even a mature unit is one hardened element of a redundant forward power system, not a drop-in replacement for the whole logistics tail.
Highest value, highest precondition
The fixed forward site is where cutting resupply has the greatest life-safety value and where the preconditions are hardest: a defendable emplacement, a helium-3 supply that reaches forward, and redundancy against the low end of the availability range. The forward site is thus the clearest statement of both the promise and its requirements.
