Transmission Deferral

A firm generator sited at a load pocket can defer or avoid new transmission lines that would otherwise take years to permit and build.

Deferring the wires

When demand grows in a location, the default response is to build more transmission to import power. Those projects are slow and contested. A firm generator placed at the load can meet the growth locally, deferring or removing the need for the new line. Utilities value this as non-wires alternative capacity.

The burner (MetroVolt) is designed to be sitable at the load precisely because it does not need cooling water or a large buffer. That makes it a candidate non-wires alternative for load pockets where transmission is the binding constraint, such as dense urban infill or a new compute campus.

Speed and modularity

Deferral value depends on being able to add capacity in increments that track demand. MetroVolt's modular unit design supports adding firm capacity in steps at the load, rather than committing to one large remote plant plus its transmission.

Honest position

Transmission deferral is a system-planning benefit of a working, sitable firm unit. It is contingent on the design closing its physics gates and on a construction timeline: the commercial unit is targeted around 2036, after the ~2032 test. Until then this is a planning argument, not an available option.
