Clean Firm Power and the Climate Question

Deep decarbonization needs a source that runs when the wind is still and the sky is dark; firm clean power is the missing piece.

The gap intermittency leaves

Wind and solar are essential and already the fastest-growing new generation in many places. But a grid built to fully decarbonize still has hours, days, and cold cloudy weeks when variable output falls short. Filling that gap with storage alone becomes difficult at the tail of the distribution. A source of clean firm power — dispatchable, weather-independent, low-carbon — narrows the hardest part of the problem.

Fusion is one candidate for that role, alongside advanced fission, geothermal, and long-duration storage. Kronos does not claim fusion is the only answer or a finished one. Both of our machines are today design and simulation studies, not built plants. The honest framing is that fusion could contribute to the firm-power tier if the physics and engineering close.

What firm means

The breeder (Hyperion) and the burner (Aegis / MetroVolt) are studied as steady thermal and electric sources. Neither has demonstrated hardware net gain, and we make no such claim before first-of-a-kind operation. The value proposition is conditional on results we are still working to earn.
