Cities That Breathe
Freed from combustion and its footprint, cities can weave nature back through the built environment rather than paving it out.
Vision, not specification. This page describes a future that fusion could help make possible — not a product promise, forecast, or performance claim. The Kronos machines today are design and simulation studies: the breeder (Hyperion) and the burner (Aegis / MetroVolt). No hardware net-gain has been demonstrated; construction of the first breeder is planned to begin in Q2 2027, with first-of-a-kind first tritium targeted around 2030.
The city as an ecosystem
Cities have long been treated as the opposite of nature — the place where the wild is pushed out. That framing was partly forced by combustion: power plants, traffic, and industry made dense living dirty and loud, and green space was a scarce amenity rather than a structural feature. Clean, quiet, firm energy loosens that constraint.
When power is clean and generation is compact and near load, more of the urban fabric can be given to parks, street trees, green roofs, and daylit rivers. A city that no longer burns is a city that can breathe — cooler in summer, cleaner to inhale, and richer in the small pockets of habitat that make dense living pleasant.
Density done well
This is not a call to empty cities into the countryside; dense living is itself efficient. It is a claim that density and nature are compatible once the dirty, land-hungry parts of the energy system shrink. The land a compact grid does not need, and the air a clean grid does not foul, are exactly the resources a livable city has always lacked.
