Longevity Of Supply

At any plausible rate of global energy use, the deuterium in the ocean represents a fuel supply lasting far beyond human timescales.

Supply measured in geological time

The size of the deuterium reservoir, combined with the extraordinary energy density of fusion fuel, means the practical limit on supply is not the fuel. The ocean's deuterium inventory could meet global energy demand for a span best measured in millions of years, not decades or centuries. Why this changes the framing

Most energy debates are, at bottom, debates about scarcity: where the fuel is, who controls it, and how long it lasts. A fuel that is uniformly distributed and effectively unlimited removes that constraint from the conversation. Planning can focus on building and operating plants rather than on securing and rationing fuel.
