Helium-3 can come from breeding on Earth and, over the longer term, from lunar sources — an honest look at both routes.
Two sources on different timescales
There are two credible routes to helium-3 for the burner (Aegis / MetroVolt). The near-term, on-Earth route is breeding it in the breeder (Hyperion), where it emerges as an operational byproduct. The longer-term route is lunar helium-3, deposited in the Moon's surface by the solar wind over billions of years, which would require an off-world extraction and transport program.
An honest sequencing
The breeder route is available first because it depends only on running the machine. The lunar route is a larger, later possibility that would supplement rather than precede it. Presenting these honestly means treating breeding as the primary near-term source and lunar helium-3 as a strategic long-horizon supplement, not a prerequisite.
