Firm, not just present
MetroVolt’s promise is firm power — available around the clock and controllable to match a data center or grid. Dispatchability means the generator can hold steady output and adjust within its range on demand, without weather dependence. As a fusion generator with continuous fuel, that is a design property, subject to demonstration.
Direct energy conversion and the power-electronics chain are what make dispatch possible: they condition output and allow controlled delivery to co-located load. Whether the machine holds firm output and ramps as designed is measured once the DEC chain runs at power on the test unit and early builds.
What must be shown
- Steady output sustained continuously (not intermittent).
- Controllable within range to follow load.
- Stable delivery through the DEC and power-electronics chain.
Dispatchability is often assumed for thermal-style plants and questioned for variable renewables. MetroVolt is designed to be firm by nature of continuous fusion plus direct conversion — but the demonstration, like net electric, waits on hardware.
