The Foundry's Role in the Fleet
Hyperion is the fuel source for the wider program: it seeds new breeders and supplies the tritium and helium-3 the burner pathway will need.
The machine the rest depends on
The breeder (Hyperion) is built first because everything else depends on what it makes. Its products are not just external offtake; they are the fuel that lets the program grow. This is the foundry's role in the FOAK → NOAK → BOAK path and in the eventual burner fuel cycle.
Three fleet functions
- Seed new breeders: surplus tritium above self-sufficiency charges the next unit's startup inventory
- Supply the field: external tritium offtake to programs without their own breeding
- Feed the burner pathway: helium-3 coproduct is the fuel the D–3He burner (Aegis / MetroVolt) will eventually consume
The link to the burner is direct. The burner runs on deuterium and helium-3, and helium-3 has no terrestrial source except tritium decay. A breeder foundry is therefore the natural first supplier of burner fuel, alongside the lunar helium-3 pathway envisioned for fleet-scale burner operation.
Why sequencing follows from products
Because the foundry's products enable both fleet growth and the burner, building it first is a logical consequence of what it makes, not merely a schedule choice. Net TBR governs how fast this can proceed: higher breeding means faster seeding and more offtake. All of it is contingent on the self-sufficiency gate and remains a design-and-simulation plan; construction begins Q2 2027.
