The most intense land impact of any facility is usually construction: clearing, grading, laydown yards, temporary roads, and equipment staging. This disturbance is one-time but real, and it scales with the plant's footprint. Breeder (Hyperion) construction begins Q2 2027, so the construction-land question is concrete for that program.
Why compactness helps
Because fusion plants are in the compact, high-power-density class, the permanent footprint is dominated by buildings, the switchyard, and setbacks rather than a large energy-collection field. That keeps the construction disturbance bounded to the plant site plus temporary laydown, and it makes progressive restoration of temporary areas straightforward once construction ends.
Managing the disturbance

Because the disturbance is one-time, progressive restoration of temporary areas can begin before the plant is even commissioned.
For the breeder (Hyperion), with construction beginning Q2 2027, this is a near-term and concrete planning item rather than an abstraction. The compact footprint is the single largest lever on how much ground is ever disturbed.
