The Isotope Supply Timeline

Isotope supply from the breeder follows a staged timeline: construction from Q2 2027, FOAK first tritium ~2030, then follow-on units.

A staged program

The breeder program is deliberately staged so that claims track progress. Construction begins Q2 2027. First-of-a-kind first tritium is targeted for ~2030. Next-of-a-kind and best-of-a-kind units follow, each intended to add to the aggregate supply of tritium, helium-3, and neutron services.

What each stage means for supply

Before FOAK, all output figures are computed design targets. FOAK is the point at which the machine is intended to demonstrate first tritium and validate the breeding and co-production it was designed for. Only then does the supply story move from projection to measurement.

Claims that track progress

The value of the staged timeline is that it keeps claims tied to demonstrated progress. Before construction, the program speaks of design targets; after FOAK, it can speak of measured first tritium; after follow-on units, of an aggregate rate and redundancy. Each stage earns a stronger statement than the last. This structure is deliberate: it promises a demonstration before a supply and a supply before a fleet, so that what is asserted at any moment is backed by what has actually been shown. Every pre-FOAK figure is labeled as a design target for exactly this reason.

The timeline is the backbone of honest claims: the program promises a demonstration before a supply and a supply before a fleet. Every figure quoted for the isotope outputs is a design target until the corresponding stage delivers measured results.

Honest gateThe breeder (Hyperion) is a design and simulation study. Construction begins Q2 2027; first-of-a-kind (FOAK) first tritium is targeted for ~2030. No hardware net-gain or delivered-isotope claim is made before FOAK.
