Nonproliferation and Safeguards Context

Detection and measurement underpin nonproliferation; the isotopes and instruments involved depend on a healthy supply chain.

Measurement builds trust

Nonproliferation and safeguards rest on the ability to detect, measure, and account for nuclear material. Much of that work uses neutron detection and coincidence counting, which in turn depend on scarce detector isotopes like helium-3. When the supply of those isotopes is fragile, the instruments that build confidence are harder to field and maintain.

The supply connection

A durable domestic isotope supply supports the instrumentation that safeguards rely on. This is a supply-chain contribution, not an operational one. Kronos does not conduct safeguards; it can contribute to the material base those activities use.

Strict public posture

This page addresses only the public relationship between isotope supply and detection capability. It contains no classified, operational, or weapons-related content, consistent with a responsible dual-use posture.

Supply health as a foundation

The instruments that build confidence, portal monitors, coincidence counters, portable detectors, all draw on the same scarce isotopes and the same detection physics. When their supply base is healthy, the toolset can be fielded, maintained, and expanded; when it is fragile, capability erodes even if no policy changes. Strengthening the material foundation is therefore a genuine, if indirect, contribution, and it is the only contribution Kronos makes in this space. Kronos conducts no safeguards activity itself; its only role here is to help keep the material base that such activity relies upon domestic, diverse, and dependable.
