Standards as a Moral Commitment

High standards are not only good engineering; they are a promise to everyone who will rely on this work that we told them the truth about it.

More than process

Everything in this section can be read as method: verification, error budgets, frozen designs, reproducibility, review. But method is not why we hold to it under pressure. We hold to it because people will make decisions -- about energy, about safety, about where to place their trust -- based on what we publish, and getting it right is an obligation to them, not a preference of ours.

Why the gates are the proof

The honest thing to do with an inconvenient result is to publish it, and we do. The burner (Aegis / MetroVolt) gates -- an overstressed plug coil, a regime beyond any device, a fuel supply that does not yet exist at terrestrial scale, availability short of Tier III -- are not comfortable, and they are on the record exactly as computed. Reporting them costs us the easy story. Keeping the easy story would cost the truth, and the truth is not ours to spend.

This is why a wrong number matters beyond its engineering cost. Fusion asks for patience and trust across many years, from Q2 2027 construction through FOAK first tritium around 2030 and the machines beyond. That trust is only warranted if the numbers were honest when no one was checking. High standards are how we keep that promise, and treating them as a moral commitment rather than a process is what makes them hold when it would be easier to let them slip.
