A valuable coproduct

Alongside its tritium-class output, the breeder produces a helium-3 coproduct near 1.97 kg/yr. Helium-3 is scarce and strategically valuable, with uses that make it important beyond its quantity. It is a coproduct of the same neutron economy that breeds tritium.

Where it comes from

Helium-3 arises from the tritium pathway: tritium decays to helium-3, and the fuel cycle can recover it. This links the two products, tritium is the bankable base, and helium-3 accumulates from it, so the fuel loop is designed to recover and account for both.

Why it matters strategically

The strategic link to the burner

The breeder's helium-3 connects the two machines. The burner is a D-3He generator, and its fuel supply is a long-term constraint gated on lunar helium-3 availability. The breeder's coproduct is one terrestrial source in that picture, though the burner's fleet-scale needs are far larger. Helium-3's value here is framed as strategic, not as a revenue figure.

The 1.97 kg/yr figure is a design projection for a machine not yet built, recovered and confirmed only once the fuel loop operates.
