The Open Published Data Record

An open data record deposits the data behind published results in a persistent archive so others can inspect, verify, and reuse it.

Publishing the data, not just the paper

A scientific claim is only as strong as the evidence others can examine. The open published data record is the practice of depositing the datasets, code, and documentation behind a result into a persistent, citable archive, so that a reader can move from the figure in a paper to the numbers that produced it. It turns a claim into something checkable.

Persistent archives and identifiers

Deposits go to archives designed for permanence, which mint persistent identifiers such as DOIs. A DOI resolves to the dataset even if the hosting details change, and it lets the dataset be cited precisely. This is the Findable and Accessible foundation of FAIR data.

Firewalls and what is not published

Open does not mean indiscriminate. Sensitive material, and in a company context any confidential business information, is excluded by an explicit firewall. A published record can be scientifically complete while deliberately containing no economic content and no restricted detail. The discipline is to publish the evidence for the physics while withholding what does not belong in a public record.

The Kronos record

For Kronos, the physics results for the Hyperion breeder design and the burner concept are supported by deposited datasets and reproducible code in a public archive, with checksummed files, documentation, and persistent identifiers. The deposits carry the frozen physics basis, for example the breeder operating point, while economics are excluded by policy. The machines are design and simulation, and the deposited record makes that basis inspectable.
