Every performance figure for Hyperion is a modeled target, not a measurement; the machine is not yet built, and the record says so.
What 'design-and-simulation' means
Hyperion exists today as a design and a set of simulations. Q_sci 3.076, 85.0 MW, 9.66 MA, the field values, the breeding numbers, and the product yields are all outputs of physics and engineering models at a chosen operating point. They are specific and internally consistent, but they are predictions, not experimental results. The machine has not been built.
The timeline reflects this. Construction begins Q2 2027. First-of-a-kind first tritium is targeted near 2030, followed by next-of-a-kind and beyond. No hardware net-gain of any kind is claimed before the FOAK build, and even then the machine is designed to demonstrate gain and breeding, not net electricity.
Why the distinction is kept everywhere
The most common way fusion claims mislead is by presenting a modeled number as if it were measured. Hyperion's physics pages therefore carry the design-and-simulation status explicitly and repeat the open gates. The intent is that a reader can always tell what has been proven (nothing yet, in hardware) from what has been designed and simulated (a specific, testable operating point). That separation is the foundation of the program's credibility.
