Supercritical Helium Cooling

Cooling magnets with helium above its critical point for stable single-phase flow.

Many superconducting magnets are cooled by supercritical helium — a single-phase fluid that avoids the instabilities of boiling — forced through the conductor. It gives predictable, stable cooling.
