Spitzer Resistivity

The classical electrical resistivity of a hot plasma, falling steeply with temperature.

Glossary of Fusion & Plasma TermsUpdated 2026-08-11

A plasma's resistivity follows the Spitzer formula, dropping as temperature rises to the 3/2 power. Hotter plasmas are better conductors, so ohmic heating weakens at high temperature and auxiliary heating takes over.
