REBCO — rare-earth barium copper oxide — is a high-temperature superconducting tape that sustains very high current densities in very high magnetic fields. It is the material that makes compact, high-field fusion magnets possible.

HYPERION's magnets reach a peak field of 16.84 T using REBCO; the burner's plug coils push to 26.49 T. Kronos's REBCO study is deposited openly.

REBCO's ability to carry very high current density in very high field is what collapsed the size and cost of a fusion machine over the last decade. It lets HYPERION reach 16.84 T and the burner plug 26.49 T continuously — fields impossible with older low-temperature superconductors. Kronos's REBCO study benchmarks these claims against demonstrated coils.
