Profile Stiffness

The resistance of temperature profiles to being pushed past critical gradients.

Because turbulence clamps gradients near a threshold, temperature profiles are 'stiff' — extra core heating raises the whole profile rather than steepening it. Edge conditions (the pedestal) then strongly set core performance.
