Poloidal Field
The field that runs the short way around, produced mainly by the plasma current.
The poloidal field wraps the short way around the torus and is produced chiefly by the plasma current, with poloidal-field coils for shaping and position control. Combined with the toroidal field it makes the helical field lines that confine the plasma.

Poloidal-field coils are the actuators the shape- and position-control system drives in real time.
