Neutron Multiplier

A blanket material that multiplies neutrons to raise the tritium breeding ratio.

Glossary of Fusion & Plasma TermsUpdated 2026-08-11

Because each fusion reaction yields one neutron but breeding needs margin, blankets include a neutron multiplier (such as beryllium or lead) to boost the neutron count and lift the breeding ratio toward HYPERION's 1.8 target.
