Neutral Beam Injection (NBI)
Firing energetic neutral atoms into the plasma to heat it and drive current.
NBI injects a beam of high-energy neutral atoms that ionise inside the plasma, depositing heat and momentum and driving current. It is one of HYPERION's heating methods within its 25.9 MW auxiliary budget.
Neutral beams are the workhorse heating method: energetic neutral atoms cross the confining field, ionise inside the plasma, and deposit both heat and current-driving momentum. They are part of HYPERION's 25.9 MW auxiliary budget, and their efficiency and geometry feed directly into the steady-state current and the plant power ledger.
