Mirror-Throat Coil
The coil that forms the high-field reflection point at each end of the mirror.
- Throat field
- 17 T
At each end of the central cell, a mirror-throat coil raises the field to 17 T, reflecting particles back toward the centre. Together with the plug it sets the mirror ratio and the end confinement.
Common questions
What does the mirror-throat coil do?
At each end of the burner's central cell it raises the field to about 17 T, reflecting particles back toward the centre. With the plug it sets the mirror ratio and the end confinement.
Is it the burner's highest-field magnet?
No — the high-field plug coil is, reaching 26.49 T. The throat coil operates at the lower central-cell-to-throat field and is a less demanding magnet.
