Larmor Radius

The radius of a charged particle's spiral around a magnetic field line.

Charged particles gyrate around magnetic field lines at the Larmor (gyro) radius, set by their momentum and the field strength. Small Larmor radii mean tight confinement; higher field shrinks them, one more reason strong magnets help.

The Larmor radius shrinks as field rises, so stronger magnets confine more tightly and average over smaller-scale turbulence — one more reason Kronos's high-field approach helps. It also sets the natural scale of drift-wave turbulence and the width of particle orbits that determine neoclassical transport.
