HYPERION is a compact spherical tokamak (Q = 3.424, 88.7 MW) whose product is neutrons, tritium and helium-3 rather than grid electricity. It breeds 4.0 kg/yr of tritium at a breeding ratio of 1.8 and co-produces helium-3 to feed the burner.

As a neutron source and isotope producer, HYPERION has commercial value that does not depend on solving net-electric fusion first.
