Kronos's magnet technology is built on REBCO high-temperature superconductor, engineered into winding packs, cases and structure that reach 16.84 T in the breeder and 26.49 T in the burner plug. The technology package — conductor, joints, current leads, quench protection, structure — is documented in an open study, benchmarked against demonstrated coils.
High field is the master lever of compact fusion, so this is the technology everything else follows from.
Common questions
Magnets wound from REBCO high-temperature superconductor, which carries current and field that older superconductors cannot — enabling the breeder's 16.84 T and the burner's 26.49 T fields.
Cyclic fatigue of the high-field magnet structure, and reliable quench detection in REBCO — both mapped in Kronos's open magnet study (DOI 10.5281/zenodo.21842514).
