First-Wall Panel

A replaceable armoured tile assembly facing the plasma.

The first wall is assembled from panels — armour bonded to actively-cooled heat sinks — that face the plasma and can be replaced remotely as they wear. HYPERION's panels are rated for 1.97 MW/m2.

First-wall panels bond plasma-facing armour to actively-cooled heat sinks and take the radiation and particle load, rated for 1.97 MW/m2 on the breeder. They are designed as modular, remotely-replaceable units so the machine can be maintained as an operating plant rather than a one-shot experiment.
