Kronos's fuels are effectively inexhaustible and domestically sourced — deuterium from seawater, helium-3 bred in situ — with no import dependence.

A defining advantage of fusion is fuel security. Kronos MetroVolt runs on deuterium, which is extracted from ordinary seawater and is effectively inexhaustible, and helium-3, which the plant breeds in situ rather than importing. There is no mine, no enrichment supply chain, and no fuel to buy on a volatile international market.

That independence is strategically significant. Unlike fossil fuels or even fission uranium — which must be extracted, processed, and traded across borders — a fusion plant carries its energy security in the fuel itself. For a nation or a large consumer, firm power that depends on seawater and physics rather than fuel logistics is a resilience story as much as an energy one — part of what makes the defense case for fusion compelling.
