Aegis is the compact form of the Kronos burner — the D–³He tandem mirror sized for fixed defense and forward installations. Rail-delivered, assembled on site, and firmly land-based.

Aegis is the shorter of the two burner housings — the same tandem-mirror physics as MetroVolt, built at about 440 m to deliver roughly +850 MWe for defense bases and forward installations that need firm, self-contained power.
It is a fixed-site generator. Kronos evaluated and closed the shipboard case as negative: a naval variant would need 263–362 m of central cell against the ~273 m longest straight run inside a Ford-class hull, and only a single hull worldwide could even be fuelled. So Aegis is delivered by rail and assembled on site — the way DoD-sited reactors have always been delivered — with a folded footprint of about 1.66 acres.
Like MetroVolt, Aegis runs the low-neutron D–³He fuel at the Mode M closing point and converts charged products directly to electricity. Because the fuel is low-neutron, its first-wall life is long and its availability is limited by plug reliability rather than neutron damage.
