Theming and Shift-Aware Lighting

The room's light changes; the meaning must not

A control room runs around the clock, and its ambient lighting is not constant: bright during day operations, dimmed at night to reduce fatigue. Displays must remain legible and comfortable across that range without ever changing what a color means. Kronos L6 supports light and dark presentations of the same interface, tied to a stable color grammar so a hue's meaning is invariant even as its rendering adapts to the room.

Legibility across lighting

Contrast is maintained against whatever the ambient condition is: a dark theme for dimmed night operation keeps the alert palette distinct and the confidence hatching visible; a light theme for bright conditions does the same. The reserved alert colors are chosen to remain unmistakable in both themes, because an alarm that washes out under one lighting condition is a latent failure. Type and glyph contrast are checked against accessibility thresholds in both themes and at each viewing distance.

Fatigue is a safety factor

Night-shift fatigue degrades vigilance, which is exactly when the interface must work hardest to re-engage attention. Dimmable, low-glare presentation reduces the eye strain that accelerates fatigue, while the predictive shadow and precursor cues carry the load of re-engaging a tiring operator before an event. Theming is therefore not cosmetic; it is part of keeping operators effective through the hours when they are most vulnerable.

Theming sits on top of the color grammar and is held to the accessibility bar in every theme. It applies uniformly to consoles, the video wall, and mobile views so the crew never faces inconsistent renderings of the same truth.
