Blue — Infrastructure and Data

Blue blocks are the compute, storage, and telemetry transport — the substrate everything else runs on, from GPU clusters to cryo-rated feedthroughs.

What blue means

Blue marks infrastructure and data movement. It spans the widest latency range of any color: from L0's offline GPU clusters to L2's sub-microsecond telemetry ingest. Blue does not decide anything; it carries, stores, and serves.

What lives in blue

The cryogenic data boundary

Blue's most demanding interface is physical: the diagnostics constellation reports through feedthroughs that cross from a cryogenic, high-vacuum, high-field environment into room-temperature electronics. On the breeder, REBCO strain gauges and Mirnov coils sit inside that boundary; on the burner, plug and throat diagnostics do. Blue owns the integrity of every sample that crosses it.

Why data is infrastructure, not intelligence

Kronos colors data blue, not yellow, on purpose: transporting and storing a signal is a reliability problem, not a learning problem. Keeping the two separate means a telemetry outage is diagnosed as an infrastructure fault, never mistaken for a model error. The same reasoning keeps L0's raw compute blue while the training that runs on it is yellow — the substrate and the intelligence it hosts are distinct concerns with distinct failure modes.

The widest latency span of any color

Blue is unique in spanning the full latency gradient. The same color labels a sub-microsecond feedthrough sample at L2 and an hours-long batch transfer to L0. What unifies them is role, not speed: in every case blue moves or holds data without deciding anything. The line semantics, not the color, tell you which end of the gradient a given blue connection sits on.

Blue is detailed in the L2 Data Fabric overview and the edge-to-cloud continuum.
